Illustrated Readers Day
Choosing and Using Good Plants
Monday 1st November 2010
Great Dixter’s head gardener Fergus Garrett explains what’s
involved in selecting good plants
From the thousands of plants you might be tempted
to grow in your garden, how do you
select the superior ones? Which give the best flowers, foliage,
or have a longer season? With his insight into the Royal Horticultural
Society’s system of Award of Garden Merit, Fergus Garrett
explains the critical process of separating the good from the
bad and the merely mediocre.
Held at Great Dixter, the garden made famous
by its late owner, the gardener and writer
Christopher Lloyd, the day includes a tour round the gardens,
which offer year-round interest and a wealth of inspiration. Fergus
worked closely with Christopher as head gardener and continues
to develop a bold approach to planting combinations and successional
planting.
Tickets cost £100
