Pruning Symposium – Friday 21 February to Friday 28 February 2025

This is a week-long, practical, hands-on symposium with a maximum of 8 attendees. 80% of the time will be outside in the garden and 20% indoors. Accommodation, meals, as well as transport to and from the hotel every day are included within the price of the course.

Lectures and workshops with head gardener Fergus Garrett will explore the following topics:

  • An introduction to Great Dixter
  • The principles of pruning, tools, timing and schedules, pruning categories for a wide variety of plants
  • Practical demonstrations and techniques for both the pruning of shrubs which flower on old wood and those that flower on new wood as well as pruning for rejuvenation, for foliage and for reduction
  • Propagation techniques, composts, greenhouses and frames
  • Coppicing, pollarding, pruning fruit and wall training

Price: £3,650 per person. A (non-refundable) deposit of £750 is required to secure a booking with the balance payable 8 weeks before the start date of the Symposium.
