Green woodworking workshop
Join us for a day of green woodworking in the Medieval Great Barn and learn how to make a miniature Sussex gate hurdle with our skilled craftspeople. This day will take you through all the stages of making a hurdle starting by using a froe and cleaving brake to split sweet chestnut poles which have been harvested from out coppiced woodland, using a billhook and beetle to further split the wood, then using a draw knife and shave horse to shape the wood into the component parts ready to be assembled.
You will also be able to make a beetle (wooden mallet).
Places are limited.
The day includes refreshments and lunch as well as your completed hurdle and beetle to take home
